Slovenian SIJ Group reduced steel production by 5.2% y/y in 2025

The Slovenian steelmaker Slovenian Steel Group (SIJ Group) reported a 5.2% year-over-year decline in steel production for 2025, down to 433,100 metric tons, according to the company’s report.

Revenue from sales last year fell by 11.9% year-on-year to €930 million; the Group reported EBITDA of €10.4 million and recorded a net loss of €117.7 million.

As noted, despite changes in geopolitical conditions and business circumstances, the company’s export activity in 2025 remained at a high level, reaching 87.6%. SIJ sells its products in 70 countries worldwide, with Germany and Italy remaining its largest export markets.

In the first quarter of this year, SIJ Group generated sales revenue of €237.7 million and produced 87,000 tons of steel. After a prolonged period of declining performance, the company is seeing the first signs of a moderate improvement in trends this year. However, as noted, market conditions remain challenging, and their recovery is gradual.

In the coming months, the Slovenian Steel Group plans to strengthen its capital structure, focus on implementing business restructuring, and seek a strategic partner. The group will begin a phase of internal transformation with a revised management structure.

As a reminder, in 2024, SIJ reported revenue of €1 billion, in line with the previous year’s figures. At the same time, EBITDA fell to €51 million compared to €73.3 million in 2023, and the net loss amounted to €15.4 million.
