In January–May 2021, scrap shipments to Ukrainian steelmaking companies increased by 23.6% y-o-y to 1.35 million tons, according to UAVtormet association.
The volume of scrap collected by steelmaking companies in 5M increased by 35.1% to 1.6 million tons against January–May 2020.
Presently, Ukrainian steelmakers are facing no scrap deficit. As of the end of May, scrap stocks at iron and steel works amounted to 140–145 thousand tons.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2020 scrap shipments to Ukrainian steelmaking companies shrank by 3.9% y-o-y to 2.9 million tons. As of the end of December, scrap stocks at iron and steel works amounted to 170–175 thousand tons.
