Scrap shipments to steelmakers increased by 23% in Q1

In January–March 2021, scrap shipments to Ukrainian steelmaking companies increased by 23.1% to 837.7 thousand tons compared to the same period of 2020, according to UAVtormet association.

The volume of scrap collected by steelmaking companies in 3M increased by 28.2% to 930 thousand tons against January–March 2020.

“This trend is due to high purchase prices of steelmaking companies in the market in January–March,” reads the post.

Presently, Ukrainian steelmakers are facing no scrap deficit. As of the end of March, scrap stocks at iron and steel works amounted to 180–185 thousand tons.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2020 scrap shipments to Ukrainian steelmaking companies shrank by 3.9% to 2.9 million tons compared to 2019. As of the end of December, scrap stocks at iron and steel works amounted to 170–175 thousand tons.
