Scrap collecting in Ukraine in January–March fell by 10%, down to 1.4 million tons

According to the statistics provided by Ukrmetallurgprom association, scrap collecting in Ukraine in January–March 2019 fell by 10% compared to the same period of the previous year, down to 1,401 thousand tons.

 

Ukrainian consumers purchased 1,364 thousand tons of scrap, or 97.3% of the total volume of collected scrap. This is 5% up from the previous year.

At the same time, according to the association, the export volume decreased by 85%, down to 37 thousand tons.

In May 2019, scrap collectors accumulated 360 thousand tons of scrap metal (95% as of April 2019). Just 2.2% of this volume, or 8 thousand tons, was exported. In May, export continued falling and reached 88% of the April volume.

 

In its turn, UAVtormet Association published a summary of the trends in sales prices for scrap in Ukraine and in the world. The general downward trend in scrap prices is evolving.

As of 15 June, Ukrainian plants bought a ton of scrap metal for UAH 5,860–6,060 ($223–230), approximately UAH 100 cheaper than on 5 June.

World prices also dropped within the ten days by $10–20 per ton, down to $250–290.

 

In its turn, UAVtormet Association published a summary of the trends in sales prices for scrap in Ukraine and in the world. The general downward trend in scrap prices is evolving.
