Salzgitter plans to get the German authorities to cancel gas rationing

German steel company Salzgitter is in talks with German regulators in order to be exempt from potential gas rationing.

Reuters reports about it with the reference to the words of the company’s CEO Gunnar Groebler.

The company claims that its production is strategically necessary for Germany’s energy security plans and local district heating.

Salzgitter makes the pipes needed to connect two planned liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals with the national grid, giving the group a key role in Germany’s efforts to reduce reliance on Russian energy.

“We are part of the solution to the question of greater energy independence,” said Salzgitter CEO Gunnar Groebler.

The CEO of the company stated that the heat produced during the company’s production processes is returned to the centralized heat supply system.

As GMK Center reported earlier, the German steel company Salzgitter has intention to produce about 1 million tons of green steel by 2026. Salzgitter plans to replace the first blast furnace with direct iron reduction units and electric arc furnaces in 2025 to fulfill the climate obligations for the production of green steel.
