Railcar queues at EU border crossings decreased by 2 thousand railcars in November

In November 2023, the volume of accumulation of freight railcars in the direction of the western border crossings decreased by 1.96 thousand tons compared to October – to 10.945 thousand units, Rail.Insider reports.

The number of railcars with grain heading to the western border crossings is 1.64 thsd tonnes, which is 980 cars less than in the previous month. Most of them are idle at the Vadul-Siret-Dornesti border crossing (over 800 cars). Izov-Grubieszów is in the second place.

In November, the actual average daily transfer of goods through border crossings decreased by 76 cars compared to October – to 1,711 thousand units.

Ukrainian Railways (UZ) plans to complete the project to transfer the border inspection point for trains on the border with Poland to Mostyska II station by the end of 2023. This measure will reduce the time for inspection of freight trains and speed up the process of their transfer at the border.

Currently, the actual throughput capacity of Mostyska II station is six trains per day (three on 1520 mm gauge and three on 1435 mm gauge). At the same time, technological capabilities allow increasing these figures to 10 trains per day (six on 1520 mm gauge and four on 1435 mm gauge).

As GMK Center reported earlier, in January-October 2023, UZ transported 12.1 million tons of cargo in export traffic, which is 7.1% less than in the previous year. Export transportation of ore for 10 months decreased by 28% y/y – to 14.88 million tons, and ferrous metals – by 27%, to 3.7 million tons.
