Qarmet to commission new rolling mill in 2026

Kazakh metallurgical company Qarmet is constructing a new rolling mill at its metallurgical plant, with production expected to commence this year. This is stated in the company’s announcement.

All preparatory work has now been completed at the site: the water pipe to the blast furnace shop has been relocated, unused structures at the future production site have been dismantled, and access to the necessary utilities has been provided. In addition, the site has been appropriately laid out and access roads have been built.

The new modern rolling complex is capable of producing up to 540,000 tonnes of long products. It will be equipped with a high-performance heating furnace with a capacity of 100 tonnes per hour and modern rolling technologies that will ensure high productivity and compliance of products with international quality standards.

The first batch of commercial reinforcement bars is expected to be delivered by the end of this year, Qarmet said.

Qarmet currently operates a rolling mill with a design capacity of 400,000 tonnes per year, producing reinforcement bars with diameters ranging from 10 mm to 32 mm. The new rolling mill will significantly expand these capabilities.

As a reminder, last autumn the company began construction of a new hot-dip galvanising and polymer coating complex. As noted, the new lines will be an important step in the implementation of the strategic programme to upgrade and expand the production capacities of Qarmet’s steelmaking division. The total investment in the project will amount to approximately 84 billion tenge, with the complex scheduled to be launched in 2027.
