Qarmet plans to produce 3.5 million tonnes of steel in 2024

Shipment of products is planned at the level of 3.2 million tons

Kazakhstan’s Qarmet (formerly ArcelorMittal Temirtau) plans to increase steel production to 3.5 million tonnes in 2024. The previous plan envisaged production of 3.3 million tonnes, while in 2023 this figure was 2.9 million tonnes. This is stated in the company’s press release.

Shipments to customers this year are planned at 3.2 million tonnes. According to Andrey Berg, Director of the Steel Department at the plant, these plans are absolutely realistic and achievable.

‘Despite the challenging economic environment, Qarmet manages to maintain stable production performance and meet its business plan targets. The company continues to work actively to modernise equipment and carry out repairs,’ the statement said.

The company’s main objectives for September include nominal daily sinter production of 14 thousand tonnes and an increase in production and shipments by the sheet rolling shops. A 10-day repair of the second continuous hot-dip galvanising line is also planned, as well as the accumulation of metal stocks to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the painting line during its repair.

For 11 days of September 2024, the production figures for pig iron are 104.6%, steel – 103.6%, sinter – 107.5%, long products – 100%. Coke production remained slightly lower at 95.9% and at Plate Mill No.2 at 98.2%.

As GMK Centre reported earlier, Qarmet plans to increase its steel production in 2024. Previous plans called for a 13% increase in steel production compared to 2023, up to 3.3 million tonnes, and a 10% increase in iron ore concentrate production, up to 10 million tonnes. At the same time, coal production is expected to decline by 2%.
