Qarmet has launched a new scrap processing facility

Kazakhstan’s steel company Qarmet has announced the commissioning of a new modern scrap processing facility.

The production capacity of the facility, located in close proximity to the company’s steel plant, is up to 300 tons of raw materials per day, which significantly improves the efficiency of internal processes.

The facility processes 15-20 vehicles weighing up to 20 tons per day. For accurate accounting, truck scales are installed here, and all operations are automated. Mobile reloaders and a 1,000-ton hydraulic press are used in the storage area, with plans to install a second press in the future.

As explained by Madiy Yerbolat, head of the scrap reception and processing section at Qarmet, the scrap is fed into the press chamber. The finished briquette is then formed and stored, and later transported by rail to the converter shop. Previously, scrap was delivered directly to the coking shop, which caused traffic jams at the entrance to the plant. The location of the new site on the outskirts of the city, next to the national highway, has greatly simplified logistics.

It should be recalled that in October this year, Qarmet began construction of a new hot-dip galvanizing and polymer coating complex, which is scheduled to be launched in 2027. The total investment in the project will amount to about 84 billion tenge. Belgian company John Cockerill was selected as the equipment supplier on a competitive basis.

The new complex will increase the total output of galvanized steel to 844,000 tons per year and polymer-coated products to 254,000 tons per year, as well as expand the product range.
