Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa
Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW), the largest producer of coking coal in the European Union, ended 2025 almost on target. During the period, 13.01 million tons of coal (97.3% of the plan) and 3.15 million tons of coking coal (100.8% of the plan) were produced. Sales reached 96.7% and 100.2% of the annual targets, respectively. This is stated in a press release.
In the fourth quarter, the company produced 3.49 million tons of coal, which is 9% more than a year earlier, of which 3.00 million tons were coking coal and 0.49 million tons were thermal coal. Sales increased to 3.77 million tons (+24% y/y), with about 69% of the volume going to external customers.
The coking coal segment showed positive dynamics, with production increasing by 22% y/y to 0.85 million tons and sales to 0.91 million tons, thanks to the implementation of previously concluded contracts and logistical shifts.
The year was marked by pressure on prices, increased steel imports from Asia, competition from cheap coking coal from outside the EU, as well as problems at the Budryk and Borynia-Zofiówka mines and an accident at the mechanical processing plant in Budryk. Despite the difficult market and operating environment, JSW maintained a stable production position and plans to restore full production capacity in 2026.
As a reminder, JSW recently announced the start of preparatory work for a large-scale business restructuring. The management board’s decision of October 11, 2025, aims to improve the difficult liquidity situation and ensure financial stability in the short and medium term.
