Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa
Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW), the largest producer of coking coal in the European Union, mined 1.26 million tons of coking coal in October 2025, which is 98.9% of the planned target, despite the difficult situation on the steel market and a number of production challenges. This is stated in the company’s press release.
Total coal production for the month reached 1.40 million tons, or 99.6% of the plan, which indicates the company’s stable performance.
JSW notes that force majeure circumstances in May and September had a negative impact on the results. In addition, some seams were mined earlier than planned, which reduced production in October but allowed for an increase in previous months.
JSW also showed sales growth in October, especially in the thermal coal segment, where sales reached 0.6 million tons, which is 3.3 times higher than planned. Coking coal sales amounted to 0.95 million tons (79% of the plan) due to weak demand from EU steelmakers.
Coke production in October amounted to 0.3 million tons (100% of the plan), and sales exceeded the plan by 12.4%. In January-October, JSW exceeded its annual coke production plan by 2.9% and its sales plan by 0.2%.
The company emphasizes that even despite a 4.5% y/y decline in steel production in the EU in September, JSW maintains a stable position as a supplier of high-quality coking coal, meeting all targets for 2025.
As GMK Center reported earlier, JSW recently announced the start of preparatory work for a large-scale business restructuring. The board’s decision of October 11, 2025, aims to improve the difficult liquidity situation and ensure financial stability in the short and medium term.
