Pittini Group suspends Ferriere Nord operations in Ozzoppo due to fire

Italy’s Pittini Group has temporarily suspended production at its main plant, Ferriere Nord in Ozzoppo (province of Udine), following a fire that broke out on the evening of October 29. The fire started in a room housing an oil-filled electrical transformer and took several hours to extinguish.

According to local media reports, the fire was confined to a single building and did not spread to other parts of the plant. No staff members were injured. A technical assessment is currently being carried out at the plant to evaluate the extent of damage to the transformer equipment and adjacent infrastructure. Production remains temporarily suspended until the assessment is complete.

Ferriere Nord is a key production center of the Pittini Group, specializing in the production of long products for the construction sector. The plant employs more than 1,500 people and supplies a significant share of rebar to the domestic and European markets.

The company has not yet released an official statement on when production will resume, but local authorities have confirmed that technical inspections will take several days. Environmental officials remain on site to monitor air quality, although they say there is no threat to the environment.

The incident may temporarily affect the supply of Ferriere Nord products, which is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of steel bars and wire. The company is expected to release an update on the situation after completing a technical assessment and agreeing on a plan to repair the equipment.

As a reminder, production at the ArcelorMittal site in Fos-sur-Mer was recently temporarily halted due to a fire. The company said that recovery from the incident could take until December. Currently, none of the blast furnaces at the site are in operation.
