One of the most modern rolling lines in Europe to be opened in Polish Silesia

The construction of a new state-of-the-art rolling line by Cognor Holding S.A. is almost complete in Siemianowice Śląskie (Poland). The powerful industrial facility is being built on the territory of the former Walcowni Rur “Jedność” and is the largest industrial investment in the Silesian Voivodeship today. The total cost of the project is PLN 800 million, of which more than 300 million was spent on construction work performed by STRABAG. This was reported by investmap.

The new plant will produce light steel profiles with an annual capacity of up to 450 thousand tons. It will be one of the most modern in its class in Europe. The total construction area is 54 thousand square meters. The complex includes three main production halls, the largest of which is 303 m long and 22 m high.

According to Krzysztof Zola, Cognor’s CFO, the line is scheduled to be launched in June 2025. During the third quarter, the company will gradually adjust its operations, and in the fourth quarter, it plans to reach full-scale commercial production.

The expansion will also create new jobs. The company is expected to employ about 150 skilled workers, including some of the staff transferred from Cognor’s outdated plant in Zavierka, which is being prepared for closure.

In January-March 2025, Poland increased steel production by 3.4% compared to the same period in 2024, to 1.844 million tons.

In 2024, the country’s steelmakers increased steel production by 10.1% compared to 2023, from 6.4 million tons to 7.1 million tons. Thus, the country was ranked 25th in the global ranking of steel producing countries (71) by World Steel.

There are 6 steel mills in Poland, including ArcelorMittal Warszawa (0.75 million tons of steel per year), Celsa Huta Ostrowiec (0.9 million tons per year), Huta Czestochowa (0.84 million tons per year), CMC Zawiercie (1.7 million tons per year), ArcelorMittal Dąbrowa Górnicza (5 million tons per year), Ferrostal Labedy Gliwice (0.5 million tons per year).
