Nucor raises rebar prices by $60/t

American steelmaker Nucor Bar Group has raised prices for all types of rebar by $60/t ($3/cwt) for new orders received after June 5, 2025. This is stated in the company’s letter to customers.

The letter states that all confirmed orders as of the end of the business day on June 5 will be fixed at the old price if they are shipped before June 19.

“We reserve the right to review and re-evaluate any offers that are not confirmed in writing or have no official confirmation from Nucor,” the letter to customers reads.

The company’s decision comes in response to similar price increases by other major market players such as Steel Dynamics, Commercial Metals Company (CMC) and Gerdau Long Steel North America, which earlier this week also announced a $3/mt ($60/t) price increase for rebar. In addition, they raised the price of 20-foot bars by another $2/swt ($40/t), while Nucor did not take such a step.

Experts attribute the price increase to stable demand in the construction sector, as well as to the desire of producers to maintain profitability amid rising costs. Other market players are also expected to adjust their price offers in the coming days.

As a reminder, rebar prices in the US decreased by 1.9% – to $765/t in May, breaking two months of stability. Although the quotes remain 7.7% higher than at the beginning of the year, the market showed signs of weakness amid declining demand, fluctuations in the scrap market, excess inventories and uncertainty over tariffs.
