Metinvest-SMС increases supplies of galvanized rolled steel to the Ukrainian market

Metinvest-SMC, a steel trading company that is part of the Metinvest Group, is increasing its supplies of galvanized rolled steel to the Ukrainian market amid the growing trend towards frameless construction. Demand for such structures is growing rapidly, as they are used as warehouses, logistics terminals, production workshops, as well as sports and entertainment complexes, according to a press release from Metinvest.Media.

One of the large-scale projects where the company became a key steel supplier was the construction of four covered hangars for grain storage in the Odesa region. Metinvest-SMC shipped about 600 tons of rolled steel for this project: galvanized coils produced by Unisteel and rebar produced by Kametstal.

In recent years, the company’s supplies have shown steady growth. While in 2023-2024 Metinvest-SMC shipped an average of 4,000 tons of steel per year, by early September 2025, deliveries of galvanized coils for hangars had already reached 3,000 tons. By the end of this year, approximately 4,500 tons are expected.

«Our Southern region supplies steel products to almost 65% of the Ukrainian market for frameless hangars. This is because the main customers who invest in the construction of such structures work right here – in the agricultural sector and logistics,» comments Maxim Gurievsky, Metinvest-SMC manager for key accounts in the southern region of Ukraine.

The advantages of frameless hangars are obvious, including quick installation (from a few days to three weeks), cost-effectiveness (up to 40% cheaper than traditional structures), no columns inside, durability of over 30 years, and versatility in application.

The development of the agricultural sector, the need for quick and affordable solutions, and the realities of war are stimulating further demand for these structures. In turn, Ukrainian manufacturers are mastering the technology of manufacturing steel arch structures, reducing dependence on imports and making construction cheaper.

Thanks to stable supplies and partnerships with customers, Metinvest-SMC is strengthening its position as a key player in the market for rolled steel for frameless construction in Ukraine.

Earlier, Metinvest-SMC joined a large-scale infrastructure project to build a new water main to supply Mykolaiv with high-quality drinking water. As part of this initiative, the company is supplying up to 500 tons of reinforcing steel of various sizes, which will form the basis for a reliable water supply system.
