Metinvest presents a social housing project based on the Steel Dream concept

At the Ukrainian Construction Congress (UBC) in Kyiv, Metinvest presented a new social housing project – a steel prefabricated house created as part of the Steel Dream initiative. It was presented by Sergiy Tkachenko, Program Director of Metinvest Sichstal Engineering Company.

A universal steel house is a modular structure on a metal frame with prefabricated panels that can be quickly assembled on piles or a columnar foundation. The sections – straight, angular or transverse – allow for the construction of housing from 5 to 9 floors in more than 50 configurations. The modules are manufactured at a factory, which ensures quality and speeds up construction: one section can be built in 6 months.

The project includes two types of layouts – “smart” and “standard”. Its layout takes into account the needs of people in wheelchairs, and in the future it is planned to add navigation for people with visual impairments.

“Our project is intended to become an important tool for restoring infrastructure and creating quality housing. This is not just a residential complex, but an integrated system that works effectively in the face of modern challenges. A steel-framed prefabricated house is a dwelling that is built quickly, lasts a long time and is ready to adapt to the requirements of the future,” said Tkachenko.

Steel houses have already been incorporated into the projects of neighborhoods in Vasylkiv, Hlukhiv, Trostianets and Hoshcha for IDPs from Mariupol, Bakhmut and other destroyed cities. In particular, a neighborhood for 3,500 residents of Bakhmut with housing, a school, and a kindergarten is being planned in Rivne Oblast.

More than 200 ready-made projects with all technical and cost estimates have already been created as part of the Steel Dream. They can be adapted and quickly launched in communities. At the Creator of the Year 2025 competition of the Steel Dream. Mariupol-Vasylkiv” and ‘Bakhmut-Hoshcha’ initiatives won in the ‘Revival and Unification of Communities’ nomination.

Over the three years of the full-scale war, Metinvest Group has allocated UAH 9.28 billion to support Ukraine. Of this amount, UAH 4.9 billion was allocated to the army as part of the Steel Front initiative. The company remains Ukraine’s largest exporter and continues to invest in modernization, energy independence and employee safety.
