Metinvest focuses on the development of linear management

At the beginning of a full-scale invasion, Metinvest Group decided to delegate powers to its enterprises in Pokrovsk, Kryvyi Rih, Zaporozhye and Kamensky, located 20-30 km from the front line. This was told by Tetiana Petruk, Director for Sustainable Development and Interaction with the Company’s Personnel, at the HR DAYS forum, Metinvest said in a statement.

According to her, it was line leaders who made decisions on the ground. This approach proved its effectiveness and expediency: it helped to save human lives and prevent an environmental catastrophe.

Tetiana Petruk noted that the company pays attention to the development of line management.

«We teach line managers practical and theoretical skills so that they have a base, a perspective to growth. When forming a general development program, we focus on line managers. After all, these are people who know what business needs today, what to do here and now, «she explained.

The Director of Sustainable Development and Interaction with Metinvest Personnel added that this is the reason why the group started a program to integrate veterans from line managers, because people return to them directly.

Tatyana Petruk recalled that the veteran program of the company is based on four principles, the first of which is the responsibility of everyone – from CEO to master in the workshop.

Before the war, she recalled, the company employed almost 111 thousand people. The first asset losses began for Metinvest back in 2014. In 2022, the company lost two metallurgical plants in Mariupol, and in 2023 – a plant in Avdiivka.

Currently, 60 thousand employees remain in Metinvest, of which almost 10 thousand have passed through the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Now the army has more than 8 thousand employees and almost a thousand returned from the war and began to work.

The Director for Sustainable Development and Interaction with Metinvest Personnel noted that the company does not create separate business processes for integrating veterans or mobilizing employees, but adapts all existing business processes to new realities. To make the return of veterans and veterans to the teams more comfortable, the group introduced the positions of coordinators involved in methodology and support.

According to Tetiana Petruk, the staff shortage is currently almost 4 thousand people, staff turnover is up to 20% per month. Therefore, the return of veterans is an opportunity to provide enterprises with working hands.

In addition, Metinvest, against the background of a lack of specialists in male professions, retrains women. For example, the company has a female team that works as operators of underground equipment at a mine in Pokrovsk. However, there are certain problems.

«First, women are not standing in line to take male positions. Second, retraining women takes time. In addition, there are professions that women will not physically pull, «Tatyana Petruk explained.

Now the share of women in hiring staff is almost 30%, before the war the situation was different. To hire more women, according to Tetiana Petruk, cities should have infrastructure, schools with shelters for the safety of children. She calls the restoration of infrastructure one of the problems of the post-war revival of Ukraine – the state should do this in order to create conditions for the return of people.

As GMK Center reported earlier, the group Metinvest took fifth place in the rating «The best employers of Ukraine 2024» according to the magazine «TOP-100. Ratings of the greatest» and won the special nomination» The best program for the adaptation of veterans. «
