Metinvest completes overhaul of roasting machine at Northern Mining

Metinvest Group’s Northern Mining and Processing Plant (Northern Mining) has completed a major overhaul of the LURGI 552 A roasting machine at its processing complex. UAH 14 million was allocated for the work, according to a press release.

Despite the military and economic challenges, the combined mining and processing plant continues to modernize its equipment and maintain its production capacities in Kryvyi Rih. In early January, specialists from the No. 2 pellet production shop began a scheduled upgrade of the unit, and by the end of the month, the machine was back in operation.

During the repair, specialists restored mechanical equipment in the pelletizing, calcining, and screening areas, replaced conveyor belts, and overhauled the transport system of the technological line. They also repaired the metal structures of the furnace, updating the water cooling elements, and partially replaced the damaged lining blocks in the firing and cooling areas using modern materials that are resistant to high temperatures.

According to Eduard Matitsin, head of the No. 2 roll production shop, the main goal of the work was to maintain productivity and stabilize product quality. After the upgrade, the unit will operate at the design level of 465 tons of rolls per hour. In addition, the modernization will reduce specific energy and resource consumption, increase equipment efficiency, and improve occupational safety.

The company emphasizes that thanks to the preparation and coordinated work of the services, the repairs were completed on time and in full.

As a reminder, in July 2025, Northern Mining launched two gas generators as part of a program to ensure the energy independence of Metinvest Group companies. In two months of operation, they have generated 1,040 MWh of electricity and achieved an economic effect of UAH 2.3 million. In total, four such units are planned to be installed.
