Metinvest built the first steel underground hospital for the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the front line

Through Steel Front initiative, the Metinvest Group created for the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, in coordination with the East Medical Forces, the country’s first underground stabilization point to save the lives of defenders on the front line. This is stated in the message of the company.

Metinvest’s investments in the construction of the steel stable station and its equipment amounted to more than UAH 20 million.

When establishing the hospital, additional security measures were taken to protect against exposing positions and potential enemy attacks on the object. It was additionally equipped with high-power electronic warfare systems and alternative power sources.

The staffing of the hospital corresponds to the level of field hospitals of the second echelon (Role/Echelon 2) in accordance with NATO standards. It provides resuscitation, treatment and retention of patients near the front line in safe conditions until patients are discharged or evacuated to another hospital.

Underground hospital for equipping medical equipment is not inferior to civilian hospitals. Metinvest equipped the hospital with oxygen concentrators, ventilators, cardiac monitors, defibrillators, operating equipment and lighting, sterilizers, patient heating systems, medical furniture, etc., for a total amount of more than UAH 7 million.

The base for the underground hospital was steel bunkers – «hiding places,» which the company developed. They were modernized and structurally changed according to the needs of military doctors. The hospital was designed on the basis of six steel bunkers of increased size: the length of each is 7.6 m, the diameter is 2.5 m. The building was equipped with ventilation, water supply, drainage and energy supply systems.

«The medical hospital at a depth of many meters underground is the most ambitious and complex project that we have had to implement since the beginning of the full-scale invasion through Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front initiative. Every minute plays an important role in saving lives of Ukrainian defenders. Therefore, we have made every effort not to waste this precious time and to ensure that our doctors have everything they need to provide timely and effective care, «said Olexander Myronenko, Operations Director of Metinvest Group.

According to Roman Kuzev, acting commander of the East Medical Forces, this underground hospital is the best stabilization point available. It will allow providing medical care to more than 100 patients every day, saving hundreds of lives of Ukrainian heroes.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Metinvest has directed UAH 7.5 billion to help Ukraine and its citizens, of which UAH 4 billion – to the needs of the army within the framework of the military initiative Steel Front. The company also produces many products that are transferred for the needs of the army.

As GMK Center reported earlier, Metinvest built 200 km of fortifications in the Donetsk region and Zaporozhye. Construction of engineering and fortifications is conducted together with military and civil-military administrations
