Production of sinter ore during January-September 2023 decreased by 28.5% y/y

In September 2023, Kryvyi Rih Iron Ore Plant (KZHRK) reduced the production of marketable underground iron ore by 32.5% compared to the same month of 2022 – to 135 thousand tons. It is stated in the corporate newspaper.

Compared with August 2023, in September, the production of sinter ore at KZHRK fell by 40%.

In September 2023, the Ternivska mine produced 40,000 tons of marketable ore, which is 11.1% less than the previous month and 20% less than in September 2022. Kozatska mine reduced production by 50% m/m and y/y – to 25,000 tons. Pokrovska reduced production by 30% y/y and 50% m/m in a month – to 35 thousand tons. Miners of the Kryvorizka mine reduced sinter ore production by 41.7% m/m and 30% y/y – to 35 thousand tons.

In January-September 2023, the plant produced 1.79 million tons of sitner ore, which is 28.5% less than in the same period of 2022, including:

  • mine Ternivska – 420 thousand tons (-38.2% y/y);
  • Kozatska – 400.4 thousand tons (-40.7%);
  • Pokrovska – 422.6 thousand tons (-16.6%);
  • Kryvorizka – 547 thousand tons (-14.8%).

The company’s production plan for extracting commercial iron ore in September 2023 was 85% completed.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2022 KZHRK reduced production of commercial iron ore from underground mining by 33.3% compared to 2021 – to 2.89 million tons.

In the 12 months of 2022, the Ternivska mine produced 770,000 tons of marketable ore (-34% y/y), Kozatska – 783,000 tons (-29.1% y/y), Pokrovska – 582 thousand tons (-10.2% y/y), and Kryvorizka – 753 thousand tons (-46.6% y/y).

Kryvyi Rih Iron Ore Plant (KZRK) is the largest producer of sinter ore in Ukraine. Most of its production volume is exported to Eastern Europe. KZHRK operates four underground mines. Its reserves amount to 210 million tons of rich iron ores, 58.6% Fe.
