The production of sinter ore in January-May 2023 decreased by 30.9% y/y

Kryvyi Rih Iron Ore Plant (KZHRK), in May 2023, reduced the production of commercial iron ore from underground mining by 16.7% compared to the previous month – to 200 thousand tons. This is stated in the corporate newspaper.

On an annual basis, in May 2023 KZHRK reduced the production of sinter ore by 28.6%.

In May 2023, the Ternivska mine produced 50 thousand tons of iron ore, which is 9.1% less than the previous month and 37.5% less than in May 2022. The Kozatska mine increased production by 0.7% m/m and decreased by 30.7% y/y – to 55.4 thousand tons. Pokrovska reduced production by 84% m/m and by 80.8% y/y – to 9.6 thousand tons. The miners of the Kryvorizka mine increased iron ore production by 21.4% m/m and y/y – up to 85 thousand tons

In January-May 2023, the plant produced 1.005 million tons of sinter ore, which is 30.9% less than in the same period of 2022, including:

  • mine Ternivska – 245 thousand tons (-40.2% y/y);
  • Kozatska – 260.4 thousand tons (-34.9%);
  • Pokrovska – 199.6 thousand tons (-25.2%);
  • Kryvorizka – 300 thousand tons (-20.4%).

The production plan of the enterprise for the extraction of marketable iron ore in May 2023 was fulfilled by 100%.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2022, KZHRK reduced production of commercial iron ore by 33.3% compared to 2021 – to 2.89 million tons.

In the 12 months of 2022, the Ternivska mine produced 770,000 tons of marketable iron ore (-34% y/y), Kozatska – 783,000 tons (-29.1% y/y), Pokrovska – 582 thousand tons (-10.2% y/y), and Kryvorizka – 753 thousand tons (-46.6% y/y).

Kryvyi Rih Iron Ore Plant (KZRK) is the largest producer of sinter ore in Ukraine. Most of its production volume is exported to Eastern Europe. KZHRK operates four underground mines. Its reserves amount to 210 million tons of rich iron ores, 58.6% Fe.
