Kazakhstan’s Qarmet is expanding rebar production

The Kazakhstani steel company Qarmet is expanding its range of steel products to meet high standards of quality and technical specifications. This is stated in a company press release.

Qarmet has added A500SEU rebar with diameters ranging from 8 to 40 mm to its range; this product is characterised by increased ductility and resistance to repeated loading, and has successfully undergone voluntary certification.

Previously, the steelworks produced certified A500C grade reinforcing bars.

“The new product is characterised by high ductility, is suitable for earthquake-resistant structures and can withstand cyclic repeated loads – more than 2 million cycles. Thanks to these characteristics, the rebar can be used in the construction of particularly critical facilities, including nuclear power plants and other complex engineering structures,” according to a statement from Qarmet.

To develop the new product, Qarmet’s specialists devised a production process and carried out a full cycle of research work: from steel smelting to the production of rolled steel. Pilot batches of rebar with diameters ranging from 8 to 40 mm passed testing and were submitted for voluntary certification. Following the test results, the company received a certificate of conformity. The document has no territorial restrictions.

Expanding its range of reinforcing bars will enable Qarmet to enter new markets and offer customers products for projects with heightened requirements for reliability and safety.

It should be noted that in May of this year, Qarmet commenced the active phase of construction of a new bar rolling complex at the site of the steelworks in Temirtau. Its launch will enable the company to significantly expand its range of high value-added products and strengthen its position in the construction steel market.

The new complex’s design capacity will exceed 540,000 tonnes of products per year. The plant plans to produce high-strength reinforcing bars of grades A600 and A1000, as well as other types of steel products.
