Kazakhstan plans to build a new ferroalloy plant

Kazakhstan is planning to build a new ferroalloy plant in Ekibastuz, Pavlodar region, with an annual capacity of 80 thousand tons of ferrosilicon, Kallanish reports.

The plant is expected to be commissioned in 2025. The company’s products will be exported to Japan, South Korea, the United States, Turkiye and Europe.

According to Kazakh media, the project will create 520 jobs, with a total investment of over 113 billion tenge ($245 million).

In November 2023, Kazakhstani enterprises reduced production of ferroalloys by 15% compared to the previous year and 4% year-on-year – to 164.3 thousand tons. In January-November, ferroalloy production in the country fell by 3% y/y – to 1.86 million tons.

As GMK Center reported earlier, at the end of 2022, Kazakhstan’s Fincraft Resources and the Indian holding Monnet Group started work on the construction project of a ferroalloy plant in the industrial park “Taraz” in Kazakhstan. The joint venture will be called TB Alloys Kazakh Ltd. The project capacity is 100,000 tons of ferroalloys per year, the total amount of investment will be $125 million. The project’s completion date was not announced.

Also, steelmakers of Kazakhstan in November 2023 increased steel production by 22.6% compared to the same period in 2022 – up to 312.3 thousand tons. Compared to October 2023, this indicator increased by 1.4%. In January-November, the country increased steel production by 13.4% y/y – up to 3.56 million tons.
