Kazakhstan launches new ferroalloy plant EkibastuzFerroAlloys

A new ferroalloy production plant, EkibastuzFerroAlloys, has officially started operations in Kazakhstan. It is located in the city of Ekibastuz in the Pavlodar region. The plant is designed to produce 240,000 tons of high-quality ferrosilicon per year. Investments in the project are estimated at approximately 92 billion tenge ($177 million), according to trend.az.

According to shareholder Yerlan Nigmatulin, the plant is almost entirely export-oriented, with a localization rate of 96%. The products are planned to be supplied to 52 countries around the world, including Europe, Southeast Asia, North and South America. The company has already signed contracts, and annual export revenues, according to investors’ estimates, will exceed 100 billion tenge.

The company pays special attention to environmental performance. Shareholder David Kemertelidze emphasizes that gas cleaning efficiency reaches 99.8%. The captured dust is processed into microsilica, which is also exported.

The launch of the plant has created about 800 permanent jobs, while approximately 1,500 specialists were involved in the construction phase. The enterprise is located next to the Ekibastuz GRES-1 thermal power plant with a capacity of 4,000 MW, which provides stable access to electricity and raw materials.

The project is part of the Ekibastuz Development Plan until 2025 and aims to retain skilled labor, introduce modern technologies, expand environmentally friendly production, and strengthen Kazakhstan’s position in the global ferrosilicon market. Back in 2021, the media reported that the plant with four 94.5 MW furnaces was to start operating in 2023.

As a reminder, a new ferroalloy production plant, KazFerroLimited, recently began operating in Ekibastuz, Pavlodar region, Kazakhstan. The project was the first of three large industrial facilities planned for implementation in the region. The total investment in the construction amounted to 30.4 billion tenge ($57.5 million), and the plant’s capacity is estimated at about 60,000 tons of products per year.
