Last year, 349 pieces of mobile equipment were repaired at the Kametstal metallurgical plant, which is part of the Metinvest Group. This is stated in the company’s report.
The systematic adoption of new repair technologies at the company allows it to reduce equipment restoration costs, according to the metallurgical plant, and last year this strategy yielded significant results.
Among the most effective solutions is a skillfully developed technology for the overhaul of hopper cars, which proved to be a quarter cheaper than external contracts. The car undergoes renovation: after dismantling the frame, the craftsmen restore the load-bearing structures and completely replace the cladding, effectively creating a new unit based on the old wheel set. In 2025, six hopper cars were repaired and have already returned to transporting hot sinter.
Last year, specialists from the Metallurgical Equipment Repair Shop (MER) also repaired 328 sintering cars for sintering production. An important part of the work was the renewal of the pallet fleet of sintering machine No. 9 during its overhaul.
«The repair of sintering cars is a service experience gained by repairmen in wartime conditions. Thanks to the transition to its own technology, Kametstal has reduced the cost of these repairs several times over by refusing to use the expensive services of external contractors,» the company notes.
In addition, in 2025, the CRMU site carried out a major overhaul of the gear rim of the sintering machine’s pallet feed drum for the first time. The technology involves double-sided surfacing of the teeth and their precise adjustment to standard modules using templates. This solution not only allowed the critical unit to be restored, but also provided the sintering shop with the necessary spare parts, saving significant resources on the purchase of new equipment.
Last year, 15 self-propelled slag car trolleys for the converter shop were also returned to active service.
It should be noted that in January of this year, after a forced prolonged downtime, Kametstal resumed operation of the rolling mill.
