Kametstal performs 45-foot overhaul with mixer refutations

Kametstal Iron and Steel Works began one of the most ambitious repairs of 2024 – a 45-day overhaul with the refueling of the mixer. This is stated in the press release of the enterprise.

The unit with a capacity of 2.5 thousand tons performs the technological preparation of liquid cast iron – equalizing the temperature and averaging the chemical composition before it is supplied to the converter compartment and poured into the converters.

«During a stop to perform repair work on the mixer, the production of steel in the workshop continues: the transfusion of cast iron from the cast iron buckets of the blast furnace shop into the cast iron buckets of the converter shop is performed directly, bypassing the mixer,» the company notes.

The main part of the overhaul is the complete replacement of the fire-resistant masonry of the mixer body, which since the previous overhaul in 2021 has defended its normative service life. Now the old lining has been dismantled, the building has been examined and prepared for the lining works, which have already been started by specialist contractors. In total, it is planned to update 550 cubic meters of masonry.

During the overhaul, key equipment is also restored, repair interventions in which are possible only during a complete long stop of the unit – in particular, the revision and repair of the drive mechanism, the mixer swing mechanism, the tightening of the bolt fasteners of the covers, etc.

Employees of the electrical and power services also began a comprehensive repair and maintenance of the aspiration system of the mixer: they restore the electric motor with a capacity of 930 kW, conduct a thorough audit of the aspiration path – dampers, electrical equipment, smoke pump units, etc.

High-quality performance of the planned overhaul of the mixer will extend the life of its operation and bring the operation of the unit as close as possible to the passport characteristics, «summarizes the plant.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in June, Kametstal announced the overhaul of the air separation unit KAr-30 No. 3 in the oxygen compressor shop. The unit provides oxygen and nitrogen processes in the main production units, primarily the converter and blast furnace.
