Kametstal is upgrading its chemically treated water production equipment

Kametstal Iron and Steel Works overhauls the equipment for the preparation of chemically purified water at the chemical water treatment site (KhVO) No. 3 of the heat and power plant (CHPP). This is stated in the press release of the enterprise.

«In order to reliably provide the technological processes at the enterprise with chemically purified water, a complex of equipment overhauls is carried out at the KhVO No. 3 section of the heat and power plant, on which the fulfillment of the tasks assigned to the power engineers primarily depends,» the company notes.

The chemical water treatment site No. 3 of the CHPP performs multi-stage preparation and bringing water to certain parameters for its further supply to the production units of the plant. Clarified water is freed from mechanical impurities, and then chemically brought in two-stage sodium-cationite filters.

As part of the project, a large amount of work is being done, in particular, the overhaul of four filters – two mechanical and two sodium first stage, as well as a pipeline with a diameter of 325 mm, through which clarified water enters the mechanical filters.

Specialists of Metinvest Promservice carry out a complete renovation of two collectors, a total of 240 linear meters of the pipeline will be replaced. Such overhaul of this network of clarified water is carried out for the first time since the start of the site.

The main tasks of the overhaul of the filtering equipment are the replacement of the lower drainage switchgears, as well as the cylindrical housings of each filter, since during long-term operation the metal is very worn out. Also, in all four units, the filter material will be replaced: crushed anthracite – in mechanical, cationite – in sodium.

«An integrated approach to overhauls allows power engineers to restore the entire technological chain of key KhVO-3 equipment in order to ensure a reliable and stable supply of chemically purified water for the technological needs of production units,» Kametstal summarizes.

As GMK Center, at the beginning of July “Kametstal” started one of the largest repairs of 2024 – a 45-day overhaul with relining of the mixer. The unit with a capacity of 2.5 thousand tons carries out technological preparation of liquid iron – temperature equalization and chemical composition averaging before it is fed to the converter department and poured into the converters.
