Kametstal is introducing new service solutions to optimize costs

The Kametstal Steel Plant is implementing new service solutions to optimize costs and improve production reliability. According to a press release, the Metallurgical Equipment Repair Shop (MER) has expanded its capabilities in the autonomous refurbishment of rotating equipment for the sintering shop.

Specifically, specialists have added the repair of two new types of drive gears for the sintering machine’s pallet feed drum to the list of services. These are key components whose stability ensures the continuous operation of the unit and the rhythm of production processes.

The development of these capabilities is based on prior experience — last year, the company performed its first repair of the gear ring on the sintering machine’s pallet feed drum. The repaired equipment has demonstrated stable operation, which has laid the foundation for further expansion of repair capabilities in this segment.

At the same time, the Central Maintenance and Repair Department continues its technical modernization. The machine tool fleet has been expanded with a modern CNC cylindrical grinding machine, which has already been installed on the production floor. The new equipment will enable the efficient restoration of round-section parts, including shafts and rollers.

The machine is scheduled to be commissioned in April. The first task will be the machining of drum shafts for the sintering shop. It is expected that high grinding precision and adherence to fit parameters will increase the reliability of the main equipment components.

As a reminder, in 2025, Kametstal carried out the most ambitious overhaul program since the war began. The most important projects included the overhaul of blast furnace No. 9, a comprehensive overhaul of the main equipment for both converters, the No. 1 ladle furnace, the No. 1 continuous casting machine (CCM-1), and the section rolling and pipe billet mills.
