Kametstal is completing repairs on coke pusher No. 4

The modernization of the unit is continuing while production remains in operation

The Kametstal Metallurgical Plant, part of the Metinvest Group, is completing the major overhaul of coke pusher No. 4 in the coking shop. This is stated in a company press release.

The overhaul began last year and is currently in its final stages. As noted, a team of coke plant operators and repair technicians has carried out an ambitious project to modernize the equipment.

“The uniqueness of the project lies in the fact that the modernization of the coke pusher is taking place while production continues: each component is replaced during production ‘windows’ while the unit is in standby. The goal is to restore the equipment to its design parameters while minimizing downtime. Thanks to a large-scale upgrade of the electrical system, the coke chemists will eliminate unproductive energy costs and increase the efficiency of high-quality coke production,” the company noted.

As part of the phased overhaul of the coke pusher, specialists have already modernized the main components of this unit: the coke-pushing and leveling rods have been replaced, and the mechanisms of the door-opening device have been updated with the installation of new motors, gearboxes, and drives.

Currently, repair crews are focused on upgrading the metal structures of the switchgear panels and thoroughly commissioning the electrical systems. Specialists are making the most of every scheduled shutdown to replace structural components in areas that are difficult to access for cleaning and visual inspection.

In addition, as part of the comprehensive equipment upgrade at KB-5, a major overhaul of door-removal machine No. 4 was carried out. Specialists replaced outdated core components and modernized the metal structures. The new equipment—specifically, the door removal and cleaning mechanisms for doors and frames—was manufactured by partners at Metinvest Machinery. Additionally, the unit’s electrical components were updated.

As a reminder, in 2025, Kametstal repaired 349 units of mobile equipment. The systematic adoption of new repair technologies at the plant makes it possible to reduce restoration costs.
