Once the second phase has been completed, the plant will be able to produce up to 2 million tonnes of rolled steel per year
JSW Steel, one of India’s leading steel producers, has begun work on the development of an integrated steel plant in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh. The total investment in the project, which will be implemented in two phases, will amount to 163.50 billion Indian rupees (approximately €1.5 billion). This was reported by SteelRadar.
The company notes that this facility is a key part of its long-term strategy to expand production capacity in the state and support the region’s industrial development.
JSW Rayalaseema Steel Ltd — a wholly-owned subsidiary of JSW Steel — will be directly responsible for implementing the project. Construction is divided into two key phases:
- The first phase involves an investment of 45 billion Indian rupees to build an integrated plant with a capacity of 1 million tonnes of steel per year. The plant will specialise in the production of low-carbon steel products.
- The second phase involves an investment of up to 118.50 billion Indian rupees to double the plant’s capacity to 2 million tonnes of finished products per year.
The new industrial complex in Rayalaseema will receive significant support thanks to planned government and corporate investments in road, rail, energy and water infrastructure. These projects are expected to optimise logistics operations and lay the foundations for long-term economic growth across the entire region.
As reported by GMK Center, JSW Steel has commenced work on its 65,000 crore rupee ($6.8 billion) steel plant project in Paradip (Odisha). Its planned annual capacity will be 13.2 million tonnes.
