The new A-1 longwall has been put into operation and its reserves exceed 260 thousand tons of coal.

Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW), the largest producer of coking coal in the European Union, has started mining in a new part of deposit 405/1 at the Budryk mine. The reserves in section A of this deposit are estimated at more than 5.7 million tons of high-quality coking coal. This is stated in a press release.

The first to be put into operation was the A-1 longwall, whose resources exceed 260,000 tons. Its length is 170 m, its length is almost 400 m, and its thickness reaches more than 3 m.

Modern technical solutions were used to operate the new longwall, in particular, BW-JZR 13/37 W2 mechanized support sections, a PSJZR-850 wall conveyor, a PZP Kobra beam loader transportation system, and a KD BW 800-1200 crusher. Extraction is provided by an Eickhoff SL 300 shearer. This allows for increased efficiency and safety of operations.

“The launch of the new longwall in longwall A is an important milestone not only for the Budryk mine, but also for the entire JSW company. In the future, we plan to develop deposit 405/2, which will significantly extend the mine’s operating life,” said Adam Rozmus, JSW’s vice president of technical and operational affairs.

A key element of the preparation was the connection of the Budryk ventilation network with the Aniołki mine and the neighboring Knurów-Szczygłowice shaft. This ensured the safety of operations and stable conditions for miners.

This is the second new longwall opened at Budryk in recent weeks. In early September, the Bw-1 longwall was launched in the 405/2 deposit with reserves of over 1.6 million tons and an average thickness of 3.2 m.

As a reminder, JSW recently announced the start of preparatory work for a large-scale business restructuring. The management board’s decision of October 11, 2025, aims to improve the difficult liquidity situation and ensure financial stability in the short and medium term.
