Jindal Steel has commissioned a new oxygen converter with a capacity of 3 million tons per year

Indian steel producer Jindal Steel has commissioned a new basic oxygen furnace (BOF) with a capacity of 3 million tons per year at its Anguli plant in Odisha. This was reported in a statement by the company.

The company is thus increasing the steel mill’s capacity from 6 million tons per year to 9 million tons per year.

This step follows the commissioning of blast furnace No. 2 at the same plant at the end of September this year, which more than doubled its pig iron production capacity from 4 million tons per year to 9 million tons per year.

As noted by the company, the simultaneous commissioning of these units marks an important milestone for India’s independence in steelmaking. The integrated flow to downstream plants ensures a stable supply of Indian-made steel for infrastructure, energy, automotive, oil and gas, and real estate sectors.

Jindal Steel Duqm, a subsidiary of Jindal Steel Group, has ordered a second hydrogen-ready direct reduction plant from Danieli for the production of hot briquetted iron (HBI). The equipment will be installed in Duqm (Oman), where the first Energiron DRI plant is already under construction and is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026.

As reported by GMK Center, Thyssenkrupp recently announced that it had received a non-binding offer to acquire its steelmaking division, Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe (TKSE), from Jindal Steel International.
