Jindal Steel has commissioned a blast furnace with a capacity of 5 million tons per year

India’s Jindal Steel has commissioned one of the country’s largest blast furnaces at its integrated steel plant in Angul (Odisha state), BigMint reports.

Thanks to the new facility, the company’s pig iron production capacity has increased from 4 million tons per year to 9 million tons. Total steel production capacity is expected to reach 12 million tons per year.

The new blast furnace has a usable volume of 5,499 m3. The largest blast furnace in the country was commissioned last year by Tata Steel in Kalinganagar, Odisha (effective volume 5,870 m3).

The unit is equipped with advanced automation, reliable safety systems, and environmentally responsible design, reflecting the company’s commitment to combining tradition with innovation.

The Anguli facility will be the driver of the company’s long-term expansion plans. Further plans include a dedicated port in Paradip, a slurry pipeline and coal conveyor to increase raw material supplies, the Shrikhumi power plant, and new coke ovens.

Jindal Steel Duqm, a subsidiary of Jindal Steel Group, has ordered a second hydrogen-ready direct reduction plant from Danieli for the production of hot briquetted iron (HBI). The equipment will be installed in Duqm (Oman), where the first Energiron DRI plant is already under construction and is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026.

As reported by GMK Center, Thyssenkrupp recently announced that it had received a non-binding offer to acquire its steelmaking division, Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe (TKSE), from Jindal Steel International.
