Italian steelmakers increased steel production by 10.2% in March 2026 compared to the previous month, reaching 2.06 million tons. Compared to the same month in 2025, the figure rose by 0.2%. This is according to data from the industry association Federacciai, as reported by SteelOrbis.
Flat steel production in March amounted to 818,000 tons, which is 10.3% less year-on-year but 11% more month-on-month, while long steel production stood at 1.3 million tons (+8.6% year-on-year; +18.2% month-on-month).
In January–March, Italian steelmakers produced 5.6 million tons of steel, exceeding the 2025 figure by 1.5%. In the flat steel segment, 2 million tons were produced (-6.7% y/y), and in the long steel segment, 3.4 million tons (+8.5% y/y).
As reported by GMK Center, Italy increased its steel production by 3.6% in 2025 compared to 2024, reaching 20.7 million tons. In December, steel production volumes fell by 17.5% compared to the previous month but rose by 20.5% compared to December 2024, reaching 1.45 million tons.
Flat steel production last year rose by 3.8% compared to 2024 — to 8.9 million tons — while long steel production increased by 5.5% year-on-year, to 12.3 million tons.
Overall, EU countries reduced steel production last year by 2.6% compared to 2024, to 126.2 million tons. In December, the figure rose by 3.9% year-on-year, to 9.9 million tons.
