Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe has supplied wheels for the flagship high-speed service of Turkish Railways YHT. This is stated in the company’s press release.
As part of the order, Interpipe shipped 850 mm diameter railway wheels made of ER8 category 1 steel, designed for speeds of up to 250 km/h. The customer had specific requirements for rim hardness to ensure compliance with the most stringent quality standards.
As noted by Inna Shevtsova, sales manager for railway products in the African and Asian markets, the company has an ambitious goal to enter the passenger wheel market and develop in it. The task is quite challenging, given that this segment is even more technologically demanding than the freight segment.
«We have been supplying wheels to the Turkish railway market for many years, so we understand their needs very well. Supplying the YHT line is a great opportunity to gain a foothold in the high-speed segment in Turkey and the region,» she added.
Interpipe already has significant experience in manufacturing wheels for the high-speed segment. In addition to Turkey, the company has supplied railway products for subways and high-speed passenger trains in the US, Thailand, Hungary, and the Netherlands.
It should be noted that Interpipe is focusing on complex products in its search for new niches in the global market. Its own development, the ULTIMATE brand of wheels for freight cars, is now the most widespread in the European Union, and the company’s railway products are supplied to all European countries without exception. Interpipe also faces the task of expanding its product portfolio in the passenger segment, where each train has its own wheel design with a separate production process.
