Interpipe has resumed production at its Romanian plant, Interpipe Roman – CEO

The Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe has resumed production of pipe products at its Romanian plant, Interpipe Roman. This was announced by the company’s CEO, Luca Zanotti, in an interview with the industry publication Metal Expert.

“On April 1, we took control of the plant, unfortunately without any semi-finished stock in the warehouses. We needed time to deliver the billets, and we resumed production on April 14, starting with the 16-inch automatic pipe rolling mill,” said Luca Zanotti.

According to him, Interpipe is currently focusing on increasing the supply of semi-finished products to the Romanian plant, while the pace of rolling and finishing of finished products will depend on market demand.

Luca Zanotti also noted that Interpipe Roman is equipped with three pipe rolling mills, but only one mill has been in operation in recent years.

“Our business plan is to restore production to the same level,” he said.

In addition, the CEO emphasized that Interpipe has no intention of relocating production or reducing the volume of pipe production at its plants in Ukraine in favor of Interpipe Roman.

“Currently, semi-finished products for the Romanian plant are supplied by our main electric steelmaking facility, Interpipe Steel, and are partially purchased on the open market. But we are already investing in a steelmaking complex in Dnipro to meet 100% of Interpipe Roman’s billet needs,” stated the CEO of Interpipe.

The Roman plant is a major Romanian producer of seamless steel pipes with diameters ranging from 168.3 mm to 406.4 mm. The company supplies products to customers in the energy, construction, and industrial sectors; for pipelines in onshore/offshore projects; and traditionally produces casing and tubing (OCTG) for oil and gas production.

As reported by GMK Center, Interpipe closed the deal to acquire the ArcelorMittal Tubular Products (AMTP) plant in Roman, Romania, effective March 31 of this year. By integrating this asset into its operations, Interpipe aims to expand its production capabilities, improve supply chain efficiency, and provide customers with greater added value.
