Interpipe has closed the deal to acquire the AMTP Roman plant in Romania

The Ukrainian industrial company Interpipe announced the closing of the deal to acquire the ArcelorMittal Tubular Products (AMTP) plant in Roman, Romania, effective March 31 of this year.

As noted, all customary conditions have been met, including the receipt of necessary antitrust approvals and foreign direct investment permits from Ukrainian and Romanian government authorities. The deal marks an important step in the company’s strategy to expand its presence in Europe and strengthen its position in key regional markets.

As noted, by integrating this asset into its operations, Interpipe aims to expand its production capabilities, improve supply chain efficiency, and provide customers with greater added value.

As Luca Zanotti, CEO of Interpipe, noted, this acquisition is an important milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy.

“The plant in Roman is our first production platform in the EU and internationally, marking a historic step in our development. It perfectly complements our vertically integrated value-added operations in Ukraine, strengthening both our geographic diversification and technological integration,” he explained.

He added that as Ukraine confidently forges a path toward full EU membership, “Interpipe” is actively facilitating this integration in practice by integrating the Romanian plant into its global network to better serve customers through high-quality products, reliable delivery, and expanded capabilities. Luca Zanotti emphasized that the company is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for the Romanian facility.

The strategic advantages of the acquisition, according to Interpipe, include expanding the company’s presence in Europe (the purchase strengthens the Ukrainian industrial company’s local production base within the EU) and enhancing the resilience of the supply chain. In addition, there are operational synergies: combining Interpipe’s technological expertise and integrated steel production with the established operations of the Romanian plant is expected to increase efficiency, optimize production processes, and improve overall product quality.

At the same time, Roman plant customers can count on uninterrupted service with additional support from Interpipe’s global network, technical expertise, and a customer-focused approach.

The Roman plant is a major Romanian producer of seamless steel pipes with diameters ranging from 168.3 mm to 406.4 mm. The company supplies products to customers in the energy, construction, and industrial sectors; for pipelines in onshore/offshore projects; and traditionally manufactures casing and tubing (OCTG) for oil and gas production.

As a reminder, Interpipe has consolidated its Ukrainian and international offices on the x10 ERP platform. The updated IT-Enterprise system has enabled the company to manage assets, logistics, and costs online.
