In June 2025, industrial production in the European Union (EU), adjusted for seasonal variations, decreased by 1% compared to the previous month. In the eurozone, the figure dropped by 1.3% m/m. This is according to preliminary data from Eurostat.
Compared to June 2024, industrial production in the eurozone increased by 0.2%, while in the EU it grew by 0.5%.
Among EU member states, the highest monthly growth was recorded in Belgium (+5.1%), France and Sweden (both +3.8%), and Greece (+3.3%). The largest declines were observed in Ireland (-11.3%), Portugal (-3.6%), and Lithuania (-2.8%).
On an annual basis, industrial production in June 2025 saw the largest increases in Sweden (+13.4%), Ireland (+10.5%), and Latvia (+7.3%). The biggest decreases were recorded in Bulgaria (-8.2%), Hungary (-4.9%), and Slovenia (-4.3%).
Energy production in the eurozone rose by 2.9% m/m and by 4.6% y/y over the month. In the EU energy output in the specified period increased by 2.7% m/m and 3.5% y/y.
It should be recalled that inflation in the eurozone in July 2025 rose by 2% compared to the same month of 2024. Thus, the figure stabilized at the June level. On average, analysts expected it to slow to 1.9%, according to Trading Economics.
As reported by GMK Center, the European Steel Association (EUROFER) expects a decline in steel consumption in the EU for the fourth consecutive year. Both real and apparent steel consumption in the bloc will once again decrease – by 3.3% y/y and 0.9% y/y, respectively. Market recovery will not occur before 2026.
