Industrial buyers of imported electricity are guaranteed non-disconnection for the purchased volumes

Enterprises that will purchase imported electricity will be protected from planned outages within the limits of the purchased volumes. This was reported by the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy Yuliya Svyridenko. It is stated on the department’s website.

The mechanism for electricity import from the EU, introduced by the government’s decision (the decision was adopted at the beginning of 2023), will allow producers to reduce dependence on planned outages and contribute to strengthening the country’s energy security.

“It was not easy, but we managed to create an acceptable working mechanism. The available capacity for importing electricity from EU countries, in particular Romania and Slovakia, is 600 MW per hour. Enterprises that will buy imported electricity will be guaranteed protection from scheduled power supply restrictions in the amount of electricity purchased by them,” said Yuliya Svyridenko.

According to the First Deputy Prime Minister, the current task is to ensure the possibility of uninterrupted work for the country’s enterprises and the safety margin of the power system in the face of regular Russian attacks, because the economy needs to work.

Earlier, Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko said that at the beginning of 2023, Ukraine started importing electricity from Europe, reported “Interfax-Ukraine”. Currently, it is about small volumes, but the relevant department expects to increase them.

As for possible import volumes, according to the head of the Ministry of Energy, it will depend on the situation with repairs and the commissioning of power units in the coming days. Herman Galushchenko noted that many traders are currently engaged in the issue of electricity import – not only the state-owned “Energy Company of Ukraine”, but also private private “ERB”, DTEK group.

As GMK Center reported earlier, at the end of last year, the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission (NEURC) has approved the increase in the tariff of Ukrenergo for the transmission of electricity in three stages during 2023. In particular, the tariff for electricity transmission (without VAT) has increased by 10% since January 1 of this year – up to UAH 380.28/MWh.
