Sales of steel products in the country fell by 3.8% year-on-year during this period
Steel company Tata Steel produced 5.26 million tons of steel at its domestic plants in India in the first quarter of the 2025/2026 fiscal year (April-June 2025), according to a company statement.
These volumes are almost the same as in April-June 2024, when they hit 5.27 million tons. Compared to the previous quarter (January-March), they dropped by 3.3%.
Steel sales in India in April-June fell by 3.8% year-on-year – to 4.75 million tons.
According to the company, supplies were negatively affected by maintenance-related shutdowns in Jamshedpur (repair of blast furnace G) and at the Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) plant, which led to a decline in finished product production. NINL has already resumed operations, while repairs to the blast furnace are continuing and are expected to be completed in July 2025.
Tata Steel Netherlands’ steel production in April-June amounted to 1.7 million tons, with sales for the period totaling 1.5 million tons, slightly higher than in the same period last year.
Tata Steel UK shipped 0.6 million tons of steel products in the first quarter of the 2025/2026 financial year and is currently serving customers by further processing purchased raw materials. The project to build an electric arc furnace is continuing, with construction in Port Talbot set to begin this month.
As GMK Center reported earlier, Tata Steel increased its steel production in India by 4.3% y/y – to 21.7 million tons in the 2024/2025 fiscal year (ended March 31, 2025). This was the highest figure in the company’s history.
