India has imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of Chinese electrical steel

The Indian government has imposed anti-dumping duties on imports of certain steel products from China for a period of five years, according to NDTV.

The country will levy a duty of $223.82/t on imports of Chinese cold-rolled non-oriented electrical steel (CRNO), according to a statement from the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR).

At the same time, cold-rolled fully hardened silicon electrical steel (CRFH), which is used in the production of CRNO, is excluded from the anti-dumping duty, the DGTR said.

The duty on these Chinese products was imposed after the DGTR concluded that dumped imports were causing material injury to the domestic industry. The request for an investigation came from Indian steelmakers, and the duty was recommended based on its findings.

In November, the Indian government considered introducing a new structured safeguard duty on steel imports of 11-12%. The new initiative provided for it to be levied for three years, with a 1% reduction each year.

In April this year, India introduced a temporary protective duty of 12% on imports of certain steel products for 200 days to counter cheaper supplies from abroad, mainly from China. This measure expired in early November.

As reported by GMK Center, India reduced its imports of rolled steel by 34.1% year-on-year – to 3.8 million tons in the first seven months of the 2025/2026 financial year.
