Ukrainian state-run railway company Ukrzaliznytsia in May 2022 kept cargo shipments at the level of the previous month – 9.152 million tons, Rail.Insider wrote citing the director of Ukrzaliznytsia commercial department Valerii Tkachov.
Compared to May 2021, rail cargo shipments decreased by 65.5%. In January-May 2022, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 74.2 million tons of cargo, which is 39.2% less than in the same period last year.
Last month’s grain load amounted to 1.303 million tons, which is 100 thousand tons more than in the previous month. 807 thousand tons of grain were shipped for export, of which 616 thousand tons were shipped via land border crossings, and 191 thousand tons – via ports.
In April, Ukrzaliznytsia increased cargo shipments by 14.4% compared to March, up to 9.15 million tons. During the month, most cargo was transported domestically or exported – 4.8 million tons and 3.9 million tons, respectively. The average daily workload increased by 14.8%, mostly with iron ore – 96.8 thousand tons per day.
Earlier GMK Center reported that Ukrzaliznytsia in 2021 reduced the transportation of iron and manganese ore by 2.7% compared to 2020, to 77.6 million tons. Transportation of finished steel increased by 6%, to 21.7 million t.
In general, in 2021 Ukrzaliznytsia increased cargo transportation by 3.03% compared to 2020, up to 314.6 million tons.
