The plant will become a state-owned strategic company to strengthen defense production
By the end of 2025, the Huta Częstochowa metallurgical plant will officially come under the control of the Polish Ministry of Defense (MoD). This was announced by the head of the defense department, Vladislav Kosiniak–Kamysz, confirming that the relevant document will be signed this year.
Thus, the enterprise, which was added to the list of strategic companies in February, will finally become a state-controlled structure directly subordinate to the MoD.
The government’s decision to include Huta Częstochowa in the list of strategic assets means increased state control and restrictions on the possible sale of the company. Any changes in ownership or attempts at privatization are now only possible with the consent of the government. This was a response to Poland’s need for stable sources of metal products for the defense sector, which is rapidly developing amid growing military orders.
During his visit to Częstochowa, Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that the government plans to create a more sustainable production base for the defense sector, and the plant will be one of the key elements of this strategy. It is here that steel for armored vehicles, basic components for ammunition, and other materials critical to national security can be manufactured.
The company’s CEO, Adrian Senicki, stressed that the transition process is in its final stages and is of strategic importance for the country. According to him, subordination to the Ministry of Defense will allow the plant to build internal production capacities, shorten supply chains, and provide the state with materials without external risks.
It should be noted that in 2025, the company plans to produce about 300,000 tons of steel and is increasing its production rate. Part of the production will be exported, but the main focus remains on the needs of the defense industry. The plant is already accepting orders for delivery in 2026, which confirms the stability of the production cycle during the transformation.
