Huta Częstochowa
Since resuming operations in January 2025, the Polish steel mill Huta Częstochowa has produced approximately 500,000 tons of steel. This was announced by the company’s president, Adrian Senicki, during the European Economic Congress, where he highlighted plans for further production development and expansion of the product portfolio.
According to him, approximately 22–24% of the plant’s output is already destined for export, indicating the company’s recovery in foreign markets. At the same time, the company is actively developing the specialty steel segment, particularly for the defense and shipbuilding industries. One example is its collaboration with PGZ Stocznia Wojenna on the “Ratownik” vessel project, which will be built entirely from Polish steel.
Against the backdrop of a global steel surplus, the company is focusing on niche solutions and products with higher added value. An additional incentive for this was obtaining a license from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration (MSWiA), which allows the company to independently manufacture military-grade products. It is expected that the share of such products could reach 5–7% of total output.
Sienicki also emphasized the importance of effectively protecting the European steel market, noting that the relevant mechanisms must be simple and without exceptions. In his view, support for other countries should not come at the expense of weakening one’s own industry.
The defense sector played a distinct role in the plant’s recovery, ensuring demand and serving as the foundation for further development. At the same time, the company sees potential for growth, particularly in the heavy plate and military steel segments, where demand has not yet been saturated.
Going forward, Huta Częstochowa plans to focus not only on product quality but also on increasing production volumes, responding to market needs and strengthening its position in strategic sectors.
As a reminder, in December 2025, the Polish Ministry of National Defense completed the acquisition of the Huta Częstochowa steelworks for 253.8 million zlotys.
