Turkish steel producer Hasçelik has commissioned its sixth steel plant in Osmaneli, Bilecik province, with an investment of €150 million. During the opening ceremony, attended by Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir, the company emphasized that this facility is an important step in the development of green steel production in Turkey, SteelOrbis reports.
According to Hasçelik Chairman and CEO Adnan Naji Faidashchok, the plant will produce the most environmentally friendly steel in the country. The plant is equipped with horizontal scrap loading systems, electric arc furnaces with magnetic stirring, and reverse osmosis water purification systems. This technology minimizes environmental impact and prepares for the implementation of the European CBAM mechanism.
The new plant in Bilecik is the first in Turkey to combine scrap preheating with magnetic electric arc furnaces (EAF). This reduces energy consumption and carbon emissions, making production more efficient. The plant runs entirely on recycled raw materials, which will contribute to the development of a circular economy and strengthen Turkey’s position in the field of special steels for the automotive, defense, railway, and aerospace industries.
The new facility will employ 225 people and bring long-term economic benefits to the region.
Minister Kacir emphasized that Turkey ranks first in Europe and seventh in the world in steel production. According to him, in the first nine months of this year, exports from the metallurgical industry reached $12.5 billion. He added that, according to the national roadmap for low-carbon steel, the country plans to invest $31 billion in a “green” transformation by 2053, and the new Hasçelik plant is fully in line with these strategic goals.
As a reminder, Turkey increased steel production by 7.9% in August 2025 compared to August 2024, and by 6.7% compared to the previous month, to 3.39 million tons. During January-August, Turkey’s metallurgical industry increased steel production by 0.2% compared to the same period in 2024, to 24.88 million tons.
