Global steel production in 2025 decreased by 2% year-on-year – to 1.8 billion tonnes. This is evidenced by the World Steel Association’s global ranking of steel-producing countries (70).
Total steel production in the CIS countries + Ukraine fell by 4.4% year-on-year – to 81.3 million tonnes in 2025, with Ukraine’s production falling by 2.2% year-on-year – to 7.41 million tonnes.

In December last year, global steel production fell by 3.7% compared to the same period in 2024, to 139.6 million tonnes. In the CIS countries and Ukraine, it decreased by 2.7% year-on-year, to 6.9 million tonnes.
As reported by GMK Center, global steel production in 2024 decreased by 0.9% compared to 2023, to 1.839 billion tonnes. In December 2024, the figure was 144.5 million tonnes, which is 5.6% more than in December 2023 and 1.6% less than in the previous month.
