Global steel output down 5.9% in June

Global steel production in June 2022 decreased by 5.9% compared to June 2021, to 158.1 million tons. The global ranking of 64 steel producing countries World Steel Association informs about it.

The total steel production in the CIS countries and Ukraine fell by 34.3% over the month compared to June 2021, to 5.9 million tons.

The top ten producing countries, according to World Steel, are:

  • China – 90.7 mmt (-3.3% compared to June 2021);
  • India – 10 million tons (+6.3%);
  • Japan – 7.4 million tons (-8.1%);
  • USA – 6.9 million tons (-4.2%);
  • Russia – 5 million tons (-22.2%);
  • South Korea – 5.6 million tons (-6%);
  • Germany – 3.2 million tons (-7%);
  • Turkey – 2.9 million tons (-13.1%);
  • Brazil – 2.9 million tons (-6.1%);
  • Iran – 2.2 million tons (-10.8%).

According to the results of January-June, global steel production decreased by 5.5% compared to the same period in 2021, to 949.4 million tons. The CIS countries reduced production by 18% over 6 months, to 43.6 million tons.

In 2021 global steel production increased by 3.7% compared to 2020 – up to 1.95 billion tons. Ukraine for the year increased smelting by 3.6% – up to 21.4 million tons. The country took 14th place in the global ranking of 64 steel producing countries.
