Global stainless steel production in January-September 2025 increased by 3% compared to the same period in 2025, reaching 48.02 million tons. This is according to data from the non-profit organization World Stainless Association.
During this period, Europe reduced its stainless steel production by 4.2% y/y – to 4.49 million tons. The US increased its production by 9.3% y/y to 1.65 million tons over nine months.
In Asia, excluding China and South Korea, stainless steel production in January-September 2025 increased by 1.1% y/y – to 10.77 million tons, while China produced 30.45 million tons of stainless steel during the same period, up 4.7% y/y.
Other countries, including Ukraine, Brazil, South Africa, Indonesia, South Korea, and Russia, reduced their stainless steel production by 5.7% y/y – to 649,000 tons.
In Q3, global stainless steel production amounted to 16.07 million tons, up 2.3% from the previous quarter. Europe reduced its output by 11.3% q-o-q – to 1.34 million tons, while other countries reduced theirs by 20.1% q-o-q – to 201,000 tons. The US increased production by 11.6% q-o-q (538,000 tons), China by 3.9% q-o-q (10.28 million tons), and Asia by 3.9% q-o-q (3.71 million tons).
As reported by GMK Center, global stainless steel production in 2024 increased by 7% compared to 2023, to 62.621 million tons. Over the year, Europe, including Ukraine, increased stainless steel production by 1.5% y/y – to 6.09 million tons. The US increased its production by 6.9% y/y – to 1.95 million tons over 12 months. China produced 39.44 million tons of stainless steel during the same period, up 7.5% y/y. In Asia, excluding China and South Korea, stainless steel production grew by 6.4% y/y last year – to 7.32 million tons.
