In August 2024, steel enterprises of France increased steel production by 50% compared to the previous month – to 1.12 million tons. Thus, the country took 18th place in the global rating of steel-producing countries (71) WorldSteel Association.
Compared to the same month of 2023, steel production by French steelmakers increased by 40.3% in August. Thus, the indicator reached the maximum since November last year.
In January-August, steel production in France increased by 8.4% compared to the same period in 2023 – to 7.03 million tons. The average monthly steel production during this period amounted to 879 thousand tons compared to 810.75 thousand tons in January-August 2023.
In general, in January-August 2024, steel production in the countries of the European Union increased by 1.5% compared to January-August 2023 – up to 87.2 million tons. Global steel output for 8 months was 1.25 billion tons, which 1.5% less compared to the same period last year.
As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2023, France reduced steel production by 17.4% compared to 2022 – to 10.01 million tons. The average monthly production of steel for the year amounted to 840.7 thousand tons, while in 2022 the indicator was at the level of 1.01 million tons (-16.76 % y/y).
In 2023, steel production in the countries of the European Union amounted to 126.3 million tons of steel, which is 7.4% less y/y.
There are 11 steel enterprises located in France, including ArcelorMittal Dunkerque (2.25 million tons of steel per year), Saarstahl Ascoval Saint-Saulve (730 thousand tons/year), LME Trith-Saint-Léger (820 thousand tons/year), Ascometal Hagondange (825 thousand t/year), Riva Sam Neuves-Maisons (850 thousand t/year), Riva Sam Montereau (720 thousand t/year), Riva Alpa Gargenville (700 thousand t/year), Riva Iton Seine Bonnieres Sur Seine (550 thousand t/year), Celsa France Boucau (1.2 million t/year), ArcelorMittal Méditerranée Fos sur Mer (2.55 million t/year), Ascometal Fos Sur Mer (900 thousand t/year). The total capacity of steel production plants reaches 12.09 million tons/year.
