Hot-rolled flat steel accounted for over 80% of shipments
In January-August 2025, Ukrainian steel companies reduced exports of flat rolled steel by 1.5% compared to the same period in 2024, to 1.1 million tons. This is evidenced by GMK Center calculations based on data from the State Customs Service.
More than 80% of exports are flat hot-rolled products (HS code 7208) – 911.94 thousand tons, which is 4% less year-on-year. The main consumers of products during the period were Poland – 373.19 thousand tons, Bulgaria – 234.72 thousand tons, and Italy – 55.89 thousand tons.
Another 13.4% of shipments, or 147.69 thousand tons (+12.5% y-o-y), accounted for flat cold-rolled products (HS code 7209). The key consumer of these products is Poland – 65.48 thousand tons. Another 21.89 thousand tons were exported to Bulgaria, and 17.06 thousand tons to Italy.
During the period, 40.69 thousand tons of coated flat rolled products (HS code 7210) were exported, which is 22.1% more y/y. Poland received 26.4 thousand tons of such products, Romania – 8.89 thousand tons, and the Czech Republic – 0.89 thousand tons.
In August, Ukrainian metallurgists exported 129.49 thousand tons of flat rolled products, which is 19.1% less year-on-year and 21.9% more month-on-month. Shipments of hot-rolled flat products amounted to 103.6 thousand tons (-25.9% y-o-y; -23.4% m-o-m), cold-rolled flat products – 18.39 thousand tons (+18% y-o-y; +2.2% m-o-m), coated flat products – 7.42 thousand tons (+80.1% y-o-y; +78.3% m-o-m).
Revenue from flat steel exports in January-August decreased by 8.6% y-o-y to $629.99 million, and in August by 26.2% y-o-y, but increased by 9.6% m-o-m to $72.66 million.

As GMK Center reported earlier, in 2024 Ukraine increased its exports of flat rolled steel by 36.1% compared to 2023, to 1.63 million tons. More than 80% of supplies were flat hot-rolled products – 1.363 million tons (+44.7% y-o-y). Another 12% or 201.71 thousand tons (+0.7% y-o-y) were flat cold-rolled products.
